This lone Wyoming horse stood in a field high in the Bighorn Mountains, the transport of a full-time sheep herder. The sky and landscape bring a colorful, emotional effect to any room in your home.
Title: Sheep Herder's Horse
Location: Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming This summer we spent roaming around some of the states I grew up in, mainly Montana and Wyoming. We spent a couple of months in Yellowstone, headed north to Montana and Glacier National Park, and by the end of the summer we were back in Wyoming on the east side. The scenery was amazing, and sadly some locals didn't think so, but I can admit I was the same way when I lived in Oregon. We often don't see the place in front of us for what an awesome place it is. While in Wyoming, we did some road tripping to central Wyoming and back to Sheridan. Along the way, we took a dirt road that seemed public, since much of the land in the area was for grazing animals and owned by the state, and several dirt roads led to sheep herders' camps hidden up in the hills of the Bighorn Mountains. We drove right up to this camp, took a few photos, and turned around before we made the dog and horse on the property too uncomfortable.I feel so lucky to see a part of our country that's so rarely seen and almost always forgotten. I hope someone can enjoy this photo in their house as much as I enjoyed being there in person. I shot the photo on film with a professional medium-format camera (Pentax 67).
