Montezuma's Castle, Lush Forest View, Arizona Photo Print
Montezuma's Castle in north central Arizona, as seen from the lush area below where water was stored and farming occurred during the cliff house's occupation.
I first visited Montezuma's Castle when I lived in Arizona as a child and was completely fascinated by cliff houses found all over the Southwest and the ancient history of this continent, however Montezuma's Castle was my first and is still my favorite.
"Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved dwellings located in Camp Verde, Arizona, which were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States, between approximately AD 1100 and 1425. The main structure comprises five stories and about 20 rooms and was built over the course of three centuries."
