I'm excited to announce that Lost Kat Photo was recently asked to provide the cover art for a Chicago based band's first album, and the album is out!  The band is GoodWood and their first album is called Wicker. They're a Rock and Blues fusion group who's been jamming and playing together for decades, til finally coming together to release their first full length album - a culmination of many years of work and dedication. The image, 19th Century Cabin Interior I is a scene from a restored mining town, high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It's kind of my dream home and it's so exciting to see it being used to represent the band, on their first album and their website! The title track of the album is about a cabin that the band goes to in the north woods of Wisconsin to unplug from the shackles of technology and the workplace. They saw the image, and thought "a piano, a stove, a chair, and some peace- what else do we need?". I took this photo about 4 years ago during our Smoky Mountain vacation, and ever since, it's been my most popular pin on Pinterest, getting over 500 repins. I've had it in a selection of photos intended for blogging our travels, and this one is specifically about our experience in Gatlinburg - a town much more popular than I imagined. The streets are lined with tourist attractions, and I think we counted no less than 10 "old-timey photo studios" where you can dress as people from the 19th century. The best part of town might be the ski lift ride that overlooks the area. And for food, you can't miss the dozens of elephant ears (though I feel like they have another name there). Of course, Mellow Mushroom pizza (assuming it's still there) is the best vegan pizza in the South. However, the real reason we visited Gatlinburg was the hikes in the Smoky Mountains. Our favorite hike was one we found by accident because it started right across from our RV park. Not far in, we found several relics of buildings from pioneers who lived there well over a century ago. Small creek crossings, clandestine campsites, and vine-covered trees were some highlights as well.  I've decided to list it - available for purchase as a print, large or small, framed or on canvas. This hotel has given many people great memories of their Smoky Mountain vacation. The creek is called Roaring Fork Creek and is typical of the area's creeks, rapidly flowing over rocks from the surrounding mountains of this funny little town.

Some of my favorite photos from our recent trip to Petrified Forest National Park. It was a surprisingly windy day, where the truck door would take your hand off if you gave it a chance. We visited with my partner and his brother, who was visiting from the UK, along with a slew of other Arizona gems. Although I lived in Arizona for a short time as a child and had seen many sights with my stepfather, we never managed to visit. We had tried twice to visit this remote National Park, but either other stops or time kept us away. I remember having a strange impression of the Painted Desert thanks to tourist items, like layered jars of sand, at other stops and sand paintings with bright turquoise and pink sand. However, when I finally saw it for myself, the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest, I'd say that the Petrified Forest was my favorite. We got a chance to grill a park ranger about the history of the forest and park before she managed to escape us to talk to other tourists. It was an educational and fun trip; the ravens were definitely my favorite part! If you're interested in any prints of these images, contact me, and I can make a custom item in the shop!
